Program dates and application deadlines for the INSPIRE Pre-College Program will be announced in January, 2021.

For both the INSPIRE Pre-College Program (INSPIRE) and the Native American Political Leadership Program (NAPLP), all applicants must complete and submit an online application.

  1. Open our online application portal. If you are a new user, click "Sign Up" below the login area to create an account
  2. Once logged in, click the blue button titled "Start A New Application" on the left side of the homepage
    • After you create an application, it will appear in the homepage's left panel with the percentage complete and estimated time remaining
  3. Next, fill in the appropriate program information (located in the tabs below) to ensure your application is correctly routed 
  4. As you fill in your application, please review the eligibility and program requirements below to ensure everything is complete and submitted successfully

To start your application, you must select from the fields labeled program type, school, field of study, degree, concentration and term. For the INSPIRE Pre-College Program, please fill in the fields as follows:

  1. What type of program are you applying to?: Non-Degree
     
  2. School: Summer & Non-Degree Programs
     
  3. Field of Study: Inspire
     
  4. Degree: Non-Degree
     
  5. Concentration: Not Applicable
     
  6. Term: Summer (Year)
     

After creating the application, you can click the dark left-hand panel to open a navigation bar that displays each section that must be completed.

  • Blank circles show a section that has not been started
  • Partially-filled orange circles show in-progress sections
  • Green circles show completed sections

All sections must be completed in order to successfully submit an application.

  6. Term: Please choose the term for which you are applying. NAPLP runs two sessions a year in the Spring and Summer semesters.

For the INSPIRE Pre-College Program (INSPIRE)

Please upload your most recent high school transcript. Click the "cloud upload" icon to open a navigation window. Select the file you would like to upload and click "Open." For the Native American Political Leadership Program (NAPLP)

You must provide transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not credit was earned, the program was completed, or the credit appears as transfer credit on another transcript. Click the "cloud upload" icon to open a navigation window; select the file you would like to upload and click "Open." A status bar will show completeness of the upload. To remove the file, click the red dash to the right of the file name.

A resume is not required for INSPIRE applications.

For the Native American Political Leadership Program (NAPLP)

Please provide an updated resume. For resume help, we recommend working with your college/university's career center or your academic adviser. You can also visit the GW Career Services website to learn more about resumes and cover letters. When your file is ready, click the "cloud upload" icon to open a navigation window. For the INSPIRE Pre-College Program (INSPIRE)

Please submit an essay of 350 words or less stating why you are interested in the INSPIRE Pre-College Program and what you hope to gain by completing it. Strong essays have a clear beginning, middle, and end, and they illustrate a strong interest in public service, advocacy, and politics. How do you currently serve your community, or how do you want to serve your community in the future? Why will this program help you succeed? When your file is ready, click the "cloud upload" icon to open a navigation window. Select the file you would like to upload and click "Open." A status bar will show upload completion status. To remove the file, click the red dash to the right of the file name.

For the Native American Political Leadership Program (NAPLP)

Please submit an essay of 350 words or less answering the following question: “What do you believe are the most important issues facing Native communities today, and how do you see yourself in the equation of solving these issues?” When your file is ready, click the "cloud upload" icon to open a navigation window. Select the file you would like to upload and click "Open." A status bar will show upload completion status. To remove the file, click the red dash to the right of the file name.

For the INSPIRE Pre-College Program (INSPIRE)

Please request one letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, tribal leader, or coach who knows you well. The recommendation letter should highlight your positive qualities and speak to your potential for success in the INSPIRE Pre-College Program. In the online application, you will be prompted to fill out your recommender's information, including their email address. Upon completion, your reference will receive an email with a link to submit your recommendation letter. If they do not receive the email, they should check their spam folder and any filters/tabs their email service uses to categorize mail. To ensure your complete application is submitted on time, we advise students to request a letter of recommendation at least 2 weeks in advance of the deadline. We also recommend that students follow up with their reference 1 week before the deadline to confirm the letter will be submitted on time.

For the Native American Political Leadership Program (NAPLP)

Indication of tribal enrollment and/or Native American, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian ancestry is required. Evidence can take the form of tribal membership cards, CDIB documents, formal letters from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, formal letters from tribal enrollment offices, and more.
