Thank you for your interest in our programs. They are designed for Indigenous students to learn more about applied politics in the nation's capitol.

All applicants must complete an online application. When you first create your application choose the correct program information to make sure your application is correctly routed according to these instructions. You will not be able to submit the application without all sections completed.

  • Your username is your email address
  • Your application will appear along the left panel and will show a percentage complete and estimated time to completion.

 

Most recent versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, versions 9, 10, and 11 of Internet Explorer, and versions 5.x, 6.x and 7.x of Safari on Mac OS X

  • To start your application, you must select program type, school, field of study, degree, concentration and term. Fill in as follows:
    • What type of program are you applying to? Non-Degree
    • School: Summer & Non-Degree Programs
    • Field of Study:
      • For NAPLP please select "Native American Political Leadership Program"
      • For INSPIRE please select: "Pre-College"
    • Degree: Non-Degree
    • Concentration: Not Applicable
    • Term: Summer 2019, Spring 2020
  • The left panel contains a navigation bar that will show which sections need to be completed. Blank circles have not been started, partially filled orange circles are in progress, and green filled circles are complete.
  • Submit a complete online application, including resume, essay and transcript(s).
  • One academic letter of recommendation.
  • Indication of tribal enrollment and/or Native American, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian ancestry.

You must provide transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not credit was earned, the program was completed, or the credit appears as transfer credit on another transcript. Click the "cloud upload" icon to open a navigation window; select the file you would like to upload and click "Open." A status bar will show completeness of the upload. You must submit an essay answering the question: Why you think this program will help further academic and/or professional goals (500-600 words). You must request a letter of recommendation from one of your professors. Include your professor’s name and email in your application. An e-mail will be sent to your professor with instructions on how to upload their letter of recommendation via the online portal.

Tribal Membership

Indication of tribal enrollment and/or Native American, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian ancestry. Richard M. Milanovich Fellowship Applicants (optional)

If you are applying for the Richard M. Milanovich Fellowship, in addition to the NAPLP program, please submit an additional essay of 350 words answering the question, “What do you believe are the most important issues that Native communities are confronted with today, and how do you see yourself in the equation of solving these issues?”

Buff decorative lineHow to Apply for the INSPIRE Program

The application process and requirements for the INSPIRE Program are similar to NAPLP, however they vary due to the younger age of the program participants. INSPIRE applications need to submit their high school transcripts, one academic recommendation, tribal  membership information and a 350-word essay. No resume is required. Please apply through the online system and follow the same instructions as NAPLP (see above) for the account creation and use.
